4 Inside Sales Tips to Get Past “Hello”

If your job is to sell over the phone, you had better learn quickly how to get past “hello.”

There is no sure-fire way to overcome the customer who is determined not to be interrupted in their day, but here are 4 tips from inside sales training professionals that will improve your chances of a real conversation.
  1. Remove all distractions and focus completely on the call. Be totally attentive to the other person on the line and listen actively. They can sense when do not consider them most important.
  2. Don’t forget to smile when you greet them and introduce yourself. They can actually “hear” your pleasure at “meeting” them.
  3. No matter the reason for the call, be prepared to overcome the fast “no.” Have a back-up plan to address each quick objection so you can move toward an interactive conversation…the first step to a successful sale.
  4. Document the call just after its conclusion. You don’t want to forget any commitments you have made nor neglect a “hook” that will facilitate a follow-up call.
